Sanskriti Express to commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore

Celebrating the 150 th birth anniversary go Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, Northern Railway is organizing “Sanskritik Sandhya” on March 26, 2011 at National Rail Museum , Chanaykyapuri. The event is organized in the memory of father of Indian Literature on his birth anniversary. Sanskriti Express, a special exhibition train will showcase the life, philosophy, poetry and painting of Gurudev. India ’s first noble laureate in literature, is the figure who gave national anthems to two countries of the Indian subcontinent. Entry to the event will be by invitation only. He holds a high place in the lobbies of Indian literature. His plays and poetries are the eye-openers for society of British India . His love for language and using it for the development of society is evident from the fact that beside of his upbringing in the rich and affluent family of Bengal , he could write on various subjects troubling the Indian society at that time.   Image source: Google images

Delhi’s 1st Itra & Sugandhi Mela beckons today

Delhi ’s first “Itra & Sugandhi Mela”, started today at Dilli Haat, Pitampura. One of its kinds, the event was inaugurated by Hon’ble chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Shiela Dixit. Delhi tourism, is organizing the event in collaboration with Fragrance & Flavor Development Centre, Kannauj and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises from 25 th -27 th March, 2011 at Dilli Haat, Pitampura, New Delhi . The three day event will focus on lectures & presentations on Aroma therapy, Itra & Sugandhi (perfumes), live demonstrations of rose water distillation and art of agarbatti and dhoopbatti making. Other interesting activities will include quiz contests on Itra/Fragrance, competition of Itra, Sugandhi wooden boxes & velvet boxes, used for Itra & Sugandhi and presentation of perfumes in traditional bottles. Celebrating Delhi from 18th – 23rd September, 2010

In the season of festivals and refreshing rains, the moods of people around the city are on high. Everyone seems to enjoy the festivities. Taking the opportunity of this setting, Department of Art, Culture and Languages is celebrating the aesthetics and culture of the capital with Jashn-e-Dilli from 18 th - 23 rd September, 2010 at Ansari Auditorium, Jamia Milia Islamia. 'Ghalib' starring Tom Alter The festival will open with two-day long play on ‘Ghalib’ presented by Pierrot’s Troupe presentation; starring Tom Alter. On 20 th & 21 st September, IPTA (Indian People’s Theatre Association) will showcase ‘Kaifi aur Main ’ starring ‘Javed Akhtar’ and ‘Shaban Azmi’. The play is written by ‘Javed Akhtar’ and directed by ‘Ramesh Talwar’.  On last two days of the event i.e. 22 nd & 23 rd September, ‘Eidgah’ will be staged starring Neeta Mohindra. Ganpati Bappa Moriyaa!

Festival season in India has come and is here to stay for a time now. After celebrating Krishna Janashtmi with fervor and devotion, now arrives Lord Ganesha! It is believed and practiced that all prayers to God must start with Ganesha Stuti as he is the bestower of goodwill and benevolence.  In many parts of the country, Ganesh Chaturthi is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chavathi.   It is celebrated in honors of the birth of elephant-headed God Lord Ganesha with great joy and passion for 10 days.  Lord Ganesh is worshipped as god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. The festival touches its height in state of Maharashtra where people chant ' ganpati bappa moriya, agle baras tu jaldi aa' while dipping the idols in lakes, rivers and sea on the 10th day.  Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on 11th September, 2010. The same day world will celebrate another great festival of Eid. Both the festivals will be celebrated with equal enthusiasm and respect in India.

Krishna Janmohtsav!

K rishna Janamashti is a week away and Delhi has started preparations for celebrating the Krishna janam divas. Last  week witnessed ‘Raksha Bandhan’, which portrays the strong roots of our great Indian families. Come August-September, and the country start preparing itself for months of festivals which start with ‘Raksha Bandhan’ and ends on ‘Diwali’. While Diwali is the festival which celebrates the homecoming of Lord Rama, Janamashtmi celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Temples across the country celebrates the festival with grandeur and poise. The actual celebrations start at 12 midnight, when lord made his divine appearance. Prayers, fasts, devotional songs and many other rituals are performed to mark his birth on Earth. Celebrations in Dwarka, Mathura, Vrindavan and Gokula are high in its festivities and devotional mood reaches its peak. ICCR holds exhibition of Korean art

NDIAN COUNCIL for Cultural Relations(ICCR) is holding an exhibition of photos, paintings, fine arts and crafts work of artists from Democratic People’s Republic of Korea from August 26 to September 1, 2010, at Azad BhavanArt Gallery. T he council promotes and strengthens the cultural ties with countries across the world and this seven day exhibition will further build up India’s cultural ties with Democratic Republic of Korea. The event will allow the artists and common people from India to witness the art forms and cultural diversity of the country and will develop the sense of appreciation for art. 'Imaging Asia 2010' to showcase Asian cinema, art and culture

 CELEBRATING its 20 th   anniversary The Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) is organizing ‘Imaging Asia 2010’ with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) from 18 th -22 nd   August, 2010. The five day event will see conference, film festival, exhibitions and performances at different venues across   Delhi . The festival celebrates the spirit of Asian cinema which has grown exponentially in past years. The five day conference on ‘The Culture and Politics of Asian Cinema’ will focus on the specificity of Asian cinema and the need to recognize and respect the diversity it portrays. The discussions will take place on the politics that governs the cinema’s evolving identity.   Alongside the conference, workshops will also be conducted at IGNCA and Max Mueller Bhavan.
