Cinema, this word has always excited youngsters across the nation in all times. The word brings with it the energy, motivation and push to move on in life no matter how it treats you. Evolved as a tool of mass communication, used as a medium for spreading social messages and helping people to improve their way of thinking, it has now become a dynamic and flourishing industry. 

From the beautiful Madhubala to gorgeous Madhuri and Sridevi to hot-hot Kareena and Katrina, this cinema crazy country loves all in their unique styles and sizes. From charismatic Sunil Dutt to handsome Vinod Khanna, from stylish Rajesh Khanna to angry young Amitabh Bachhan, from hairy Anil Kapoor to six packed Shahrukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor, following the styles and trends set by the leading men has become a genetic habit. 

Cinema in India is popularly called as "Bollywood", a religion fanatically followed by millions of people and artistes worshiped as gods and goddesses. It has always been a trend amongst the youngsters to follow film stars. People wait and watch the films containing their favorite actors and actresses. Films make huge business in domestic and international markets earning zillions of money for the film industry. Actors and actresses earn money worldwide fame. Past decade have also seen directors like Karan Johar, Madhur Bhandarkar, Sanjay Leela Bhansali tasting the similar magic of gigantic fame and publicity amongst audience.   

But these are not the only people who constitute Bollywood, there are others who make real contributions in this capitalist profit making industry. All the names mentioned above are the popular ones and most marketed. They are considered as the face of painted industry far from reality. Enormously talented actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Shabana Azmi,Pankaj Kapoor, Anupam Kher directors like Shayam Benegal,Govind Nihlani, Ketan Mehta  are not so celebrated and talked about about. The names are known to most of us because of their appearances in masala films of Bollywood from time to time. Otherwise there are handful of audience for realistic cinema produced by these actors and directors. 

However, the new generation of new wave artists is comparatively making much more headlines. Artistes like Konkana Sen Sharma, Rahul Bose, Rahul Khanna, Kay Kay Menon, Divya Dutt and directors like Deepa Mehta, Nagesh Kukunoor, Sudhir Mishra, Nandita Das, Anurag Kashyap are mesmerizing audience with their admirable talent. Started with Satyajit Ray (Pather Panchali, Charulatha, Apur Sansar, Devi), Ritwik Ghatak (Megha dhaka tara, Nagrik, Ajantrik) and Mrinal Sen(Bhuvan Shome, Padtik, Khandhar) to new realist film makers like Nagesh Kukunoor (3 Deewarein, Dor), Nandita Das (Firaaq, My Brother Nikhil), Anurag Kashyap (Dev D, Gulaal)These film makers have cleverly used marketing strategies borne and developed by their contemporaries.     

The varied hues and tones of Bollywood have colored the entire nation since old times and the magic is continuing and growing till date. The magic has spread across the length and breadth of the country and is now extending its spell across the boundaries.
