PR in election campaigns...Government PR (part IV)


The following are the important functional areas for PR counseling in any typical election campaign for political candidates:

1)      The appraisal of the candidate is the first step in public relations dealing with a political campaign for the political candidate. His/Her financial background, assets, history, party, family, structure and social power – all should be carefully studied. In case of a woman candidate, the PR programmes are quite different. The appraisal gives the scope to determine the methods for the campaign.

2)      The appraisal also should indicate the candidate’s exposure to the voters. The strength of the candidate is to be decided by analysis of his/her trustworthiness, compatibility, ability, experience, administrative capability, energy, good judgment and other virtues. In the election field, there is a close contact between the candidate and the election authority like the Indian Election commission, which is the highest authority in the matters of conduction of election. It is essential for PR personnel to work closely with rules and regulations formulated by the Commission, potential changes and their implication. It is important that PR counselors check and re-check what is being going on in different constituencies. There are also penalties for violation of rules and regulations.

3)      To note contribution limits, independent expenditure, campaign limits should not exceed the limit.

4)      Buying time, booking space, layout advertisement, how and when repetition, language and so on and so forth demand creative judgment of the PR counsel. This decision is left up to the PR counsel only but not outsiders.

Census 2011

आया जी देखो census का त्यौहार, 
डेमोक्रेसी का सबसे बड़ा उपहार, 
हर दस साल मैं आता एक बार, 
और बता जाता कितना बड़ गया हमारा भारतीय परिवार!


आज फिर से वही दिन आया है, 
जब सरकार गिनेगी क्या खोया क्या पाया है, 
2001 से 2011 तक की तरक्की का सफ़र तो सबके सामने है, 
अब छुपे हुए पिछड़ेपन का नंबर आया है!
                                                                         
phase II मैं caste के सवाल को अटकाया है, 
वोट बैंक का बड़ा भारी तड़का लगाया है, 
पूछने में झिझकता है आम enumerator, 
पर जाति बताएं सब अपनी मान लेकर!


आकड़ों मैं सरकार बताएगी, कितने घर हैं कितने बेघर, 
और कितने बेरोजगार बैठे हैं हर घर, 
किसने किया कहाँ से migration, 
और कौन बड़ा रहा है, बिन सोचे तेज़ी से population!


enumerator पूछ पूछ वाही सवाल, हो चुके हैं confuse, 
और लोग उनसे पूछें  मैडम क्या है इनका use, 
वो कर नहीं सकते लोगों के सवालों को refuse, 
पर उनके दिमाग हो चुके हैं पूरी तरह diffuse!


census के काम मैं जिनको लगाया है, 
enumerator, supervisor और master trainer जैसे नामों से उन्हें सजाया है, 
क्या करें भई ऐसे नामों से सज कर, 
जब घर पे रोटी ना बने टाइम पर!


पति जी की ज्यादा आफत आई है, 
क्यूंकि रात के खाने की duty उनके हिस्स्से आई है, 
पूरे घर ने ले लिया है census office का स्वरुप, 
और Mrs. काम मैं जुटी हैं, भुलाए अपना रंग रूप!


लम्बे से गत्ते पर हरे फ़ॉर्मों को रखकर, 
काला झोला टाँगे जो दिखे भागता इधर उधर, 
दुनिया की ना हो जिसको कोई खबर, 
समझ लेना वोही है census 2011 का enumerator!

इलेक्ट्रोनिक न्यूज़ चैनल....

उफ़! तुम्हारा निराला अंदाज़,
बातें बताने का अनोखा मिजाज़,
काम करते तुम्हारे यहाँ जांबाज़
जिनका पास है ख़बरों का हर राज़!

बदल दिया है तुमने मीडिया जगत को,
आचार विचार और सोचने के अंदाज़ को,
पिछले दशक में जो सफलता तुमने पायी है,
पूरे देश को नयी ओढ़नी पहनाई है!

इलेक्ट्रोनिक न्यूज़ चैनल तुम्हे कहाँ जाता है,
जो तुम्हे देखे, वो तुम्हारी ओर खिंचा चला जाता है,
हर कोई तुम्हारे संग काम कर इतराता है,
जो ना करे वो मन ही मन ललचाता है!

आज तक, स्टार न्यूज़ और ज़ी न्यूज़ तुम्हारे संवादाता हैं,
फटाफट ख़बरों के जन्मदाता हैं,
रिपोर्टर होते हैं इनके चाक चौबंद,
और anchors करते हैं हर रिपोर्ट का क्रिया कर्म!

इंडिया टीवी, न्यूज़ २४, कहते तो हैं अपने आपको न्यूज़ चैनल,
पर अजीबो गरीब ख़बरें दिखाता है इनका editorial panel,
रिपोर्टर देते हैं वो हर खबर, जो ना करे कोई और कवर,
TRP हैं इनकी सबसे ऊंची मगर,
जो देखें  उनका बहुत बड़ा है जिगर!

धर्म और समर्पण पर विशेष ये दिखाते हैं, 
ज्योतिषों और पंडितों से उन्हें सजाते हैं, 
ताकि बनते रहें देखनें वाले बेवकूफ, 
और इनकी TRP की guarantee रहे फूल-प्रूफ!

समर्पित हैं ये फिल्म और कॉरपोरेट जगत को, 
पेज ३ parties और उनके socialites को, 
टीवी जगत को सेलेब्रिटी इन्होने बनाया है, 
और हर function मैं कम से कम एक award का हक़ पाया है!

जिसकी प्रेस रिलीज़ मैं हों बड़े नाम, 
जिसका brand name बोले हर ज़ुबान, 
air time पर रहता है उसका राज़, 
फिर चाहे किसी गाँव मैं कोई नत्था मरे हर रात!

राजा राम  मोहन रॉय के इस नोबेल profession का, 
महात्मा गाँधी ने उठाया था लाभ, जब ब्रिटिश सरकार को दिया करते थे करार जवाब, 
अब जवाब देते हैं यह ख़बरों के व्यापारी, 
क्यूंकि काली पड़ चुकी है इनकी क्रांतिकारी स्याही!

भई अब तो नई बरखा-बहार आई है, 
कैमरे पर ब्रांडेड कपड़ों की छठा छाई है, 
हर एंकर समझाता अपने आपको हीरो, 
बाकी दुनिया उसको अपने आगे लगे जीरो!

Colors:Life


Colors add life to dull and dry ...children love colors and nature is biggest reservoir of these beautiful and lively hues and tones. Then how come people say that they don't have color in their lives? To live is to enjoy and cherish the gifts of god. Look around yourself and you will find yourself in the world of reds, blues, greens, pinks and purples. There is no black and white!

Imagine your best of pictures in black and white. You may like it for some time and might  frame it as your wall photo...but somewhere your wish would be to see the same picture in color...to check how beautiful you look in real life. Real life is a colored film with real life incidents and events! 


Whenever m sad and cheerless...i surround myself with colors which help me realise that life is too short to be sad...life is on move and will fade away just at that time when you start enjoying it. 

So..start living in present and enjoy each and every moment of life..without worrying what is stored in future. Absorb the fragrance of those colors which life has gifted you!

3)      Reporting on progress, development and achievements quickly, correctly and timely on events, benefits, physical and financial progress.

The weather also makes the mood worth spending time with your sweethearts, friends and family. The rough and unsophisticated phase of winters ends here marking the  beginning of adorable spring...where nature is on its full blossom...blooming hope and promise! 

Colors around spread the message of peace, tranquility and harmony. What is beautiful on earth is LOVE..love in all relationships makes life worth living. Relationships are the basis of human life and are the deciding factors of successes and failures. I think the hidden motive of celebrating Valentine's week across the globe is to strengthen relationships, solve the estranged knots, get the lost one's back and rekindle the fading feelings of care and concern. 

Celebrate this 'love week' with your near and dear one and make them feel special for everything they have done for you.

My smiling desktop...



These days my new desktop background is a smiley in a flower...i think it is a sunflower...correct me if m wrong! A smile has a potential to convert your bad day into a beautiful day. Also the image makes my desktop look bright and full of life. 

My desktop reminds me that i have to smile in every situation...and everything will be alright!

Government PR...an introduction (part I)


The public relations in the government is quite different from PR practice in business and non-profit organizations. Government is an organ created by the statute and formed by the public. Public is a large community, complex organism collections of a diverse group of people. They can and do have profound effect on each other. Both the groups affect and are affected by their mutual interest.

The public for the government are wide and complex. It is composed of groups of doctors, lawyers, engineers, professionals, voters, political parties, opposition parties, weaker sections, labor, employees and other cross sections of society. Intimate and mutual knowledge of society’s various components is a major thrust of the government. Public vary, it is dual, complex, interlinked, so publicity and communications should be the activities of the government.

There was a time when government public relations was a neglected field, only a courtesy and received no priority. Until a few years ago, the government tended to take an insignificant role towards PR sector of the government. But governments today are finding that they cannot remain passive and cannot ignore to establish mutual relationship with the public. Government public relations was for years the neglected corner of the public relations profession. In recent years, this highly specialized area sprang into more vital prominence.

True Friends...

I won’t say m an ardent reader, but yes I like to read. Buying books is a hobby to me and then reading them in free time is a favorite pass time. Life is going too fast since last few months..and I haven’t got a chance to read any book and enjoy my ‘me-time’. My last read was spicy “Stary Nights” by Shobha De.

To break the monotony of fast pace of life..these days m indulged in reading philosophical books on life and how to make it worth living by concentrating on simplicities of life and not getting carried away by glitters and glosses.


There is a small book stall in local market near my place. It is a small roadside book stall and has restricted collection of books mostly old issues of magazines and pirated versions of famous books…selling at discounted rates. While going to the bank few days back, i gave a quick look at the stall and to my luck I found something to stop for.


The books were lying in haphazard manner and one has to immerse him/her(self) in the pool of books to find out the right one…phew!! While checking out the stall, which had books related to crime, suspense thrillers, astrology, love, romance, old issues of magazines and few fashion magazines kept in such a way that even passing car can gaze at sensuous kareena and Katrina on the cover pages!

Colors of my birthday...

This birthday has been most memorable for me and my family...loving mix of various colors of love, respect, harmony and strong family ties.


Orange, yellow, pink, maroon, white, green, red.....depicts the colors of my life. Blessed to have such lively and beautiful people around.
